Terms of Use
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of Sand Inbox, a local-only SMTP testing application. By using Sand Inbox, you agree to these Terms. Sand Inbox is still under development; these Terms are a draft and may evolve based on user feedback before a final release.
1. Description of the App ¶
Sand Inbox is a macOS local SMTP server intended solely for development and debugging. It runs on your own machine and is not a hosted service or production mail server.
Sand Inbox does not relay messages to external MTAs and does not send email to the internet. Messages remain within your local environment for inspection and testing.
2. Intended Use ¶
Sand Inbox is designed for developers to:
- test SMTP integrations locally,
- inspect email content and headers,
- simulate email sending without delivering to real recipients.
It must only be used in controlled development or testing environments and is not intended for production use. There are no uptime commitments, support obligations, or service-level guarantees.
3. Beta Access and Distribution ¶
Sand Inbox is pre-release software made available through Apple TestFlight to a limited set of testers. Access may be revoked at any time, and builds may expire without notice. Features may change or be removed between releases.
4. Eligibility ¶
You must have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms and be at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction. By using Sand Inbox you represent and warrant that you meet these requirements.
5. Prohibited Use ¶
You must not use Sand Inbox for any illegal, abusive, or harmful activities, including but not limited to:
- sending spam or bulk unsolicited emails,
- phishing, fraud, or attempts to obtain sensitive information,
- harassment, threats, or abusive or hateful content,
- impersonation or misrepresentation of identity,
- creating, staging, or testing phishing, malware, or fraudulent email campaigns intended to be delivered through other systems,
- attempting to impersonate a legitimate Mail Transfer Agent (MTA), domain, brand, or service in any context outside a clearly marked offline development/test environment,
- attempts to misuse the app as a relay, proxy, or bypass for any production message delivery.
Even though Sand Inbox does not deliver email to the internet, attempts to use it as part of a workflow for abusive or malicious behaviour are strictly prohibited.
6. No Email Relaying or External Delivery ¶
Sand Inbox does not function as an internet-facing mail relay. It:
- does not connect to external MTAs,
- does not deliver messages to real mailboxes,
- keeps all received messages local for testing only.
You must not attempt to configure Sand Inbox to route, forward, or relay email to external servers.
7. Responsibility for Your Environment ¶
You are solely responsible for configuring and securing your local environment, including:
- network access to the SMTP port,
- access control to your device,
- ensuring no unintended exposure of the local server,
- backups of any data you wish to keep.
8. No Warranty ¶
Sand Inbox is pre-release software and is provided on an “as-is” and “as-available” basis, without any warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
9. Limitation of Liability ¶
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the creator(s) of Sand Inbox will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from:
- use or inability to use the application,
- data loss or corruption,
- misconfiguration of your local environment,
- security issues caused by your network or system setup,
- damage to hardware, software, or data arising from use of the app.
You assume all risks associated with using Sand Inbox; the developer is not responsible for loss of data or any harm resulting from its use.
10. Changes to These Terms ¶
These Terms may be updated from time to time as the application evolves. The latest version will be published on the official site, and continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
11. Feedback ¶
If you provide feedback, suggestions, or reports, you grant permission to use that input without obligation or restriction.
12. Governing Law and Venue ¶
These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts located in Portugal.
